Chalaachala

The Temple of Fine Arts presents Nisha Sivanandan, Sandhya Manoj and Kalaivani Kumareswaran in Chalaachala, an Odissi Manchpravesh or Debut in November 2009
Chalaachala - moving towards the immovable or stillness in motion - suggests the ever flowing tradition of classical dance which embraces and absorbs all in its path - the past, the present, and the future - to finally return all to the Supreme Source.
An Odissi programme featuring these 3 new emerging Odissi dancers who are students of Geetha Shankaran-Lam. Having trained in Bharatnatyam, Yoga, Basics of Odissi, and Contemporary dance, they set out to explore another aspect of their love for this dance form.

They take on the challenge of honing their bodies, mind and spirit to focus on the inner strength of the Self. By using the vehicles of Hindu mythology, they strive to rediscover the connection to their present. As Odissi dancers, they live in two worlds - the rich cultural past embedded in the dances they perform and the contemporary present - and they strive to embrace the contrast and challenges, to achieve a harmony of spirit.
Apart from dances from the traditional Odissi repertoire rechoreographed by Geetha Shankaran-Lam, Chalaachala will also present a new work featuring original music and choreography by The Temple of Fine Arts.
