22nd November 2008 - Malaysia Kuchipudi Sisters
Kasthoori and Thachayani Ramanaidu, who now teach Kuchipudi at The Temple of Fine Arts, had trained under the great master Vempati Chinna Satyam for 4 years after their graduation as TFA Bharatanatyam Nrityanjali graduates here. The last three years had seen them sharing their love for this unique and alluring classical style of Andhra Pradesh with both young and mature students. In "Bhamane Satyabhamane", they will present some of the most famous pieces in the Kuchipudi repertoire, namely "Bhama Kalapam", "Dasavatharam", and "Neelamegham". Kasthoori will essay the famous piece on Satyabhama, the beautiful and haughty consort of Krishna, which will also be followed by an abhinaya piece entitled "Lekha" depicting her mood as she writes Krishna a letter. Both sisters will be seen in the arresting "Dasavatharam" which describes Krishna in his ten incarnations. The finale "Neelamegham" describes the enchanting of Krishna and is followed by the unique sequence of dancing on brass plate. This will be performed by Thachayani. They will also be presenting some of their students in an item dedicated to Ganesha as well as a folk dance in the Kuchipudi tradition.
