Music Courses

The Temple of Fine Arts offers part time courses for both Hindustani and Karnatic music. These include vocals, violin, veena, mridangam, tabla, sitar, flute, and harmonium. A course in western classical piano following the ABRSM syllabus is also offered.

Karnatic Vocal Classes: One hour duration / 1x per week * Fees: RM50 per month * Features scheduled assessments of student learning * Examinations required for each level

Beginners are introduced to swaravali varisai, jantai varisai, tara sthayi swaravali, alankara, geetham and Thirupugazh. The dattu swaravali is introduced in Stage Two and the krithi in Stage Three. More complex musical structures and forms are introduced in Stage Four and Five - including tana varnam, ashtapadi and thillana. Music theory accompanies all stages of learning.

The course uses the North Indian or Hindustani style of singing and music accompaniment.

The course follows the Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) syllabus. The beginner enters at Beginner Level and then moves on to Grade One and finishes at Grade Eight. The fees for the individual grades are as follows:

Beginner Level - RM80 per month [45 min class / 1x per week]

Grade One - RM90 per month [45 min class / 1x per week

Grade Two - RM100 per month [one hour class / 1x per week]

Grade Three - RM120 per month [one hour class / 1x week]

Grade Four - RM135 per month [one hour class / 1x week]

Grade Five - RM155 per month [one hour class / 1x week]

Grade Six - RM185 per month [one hour class / 1x week]

Grade Seven - RM215 per month [one hour class / 1x week]

Grade Eight - RM245 per month [one hour class / 1x week]
